Sharon Cuneta's Comeback Flick, The Cinemalaya Entry 'Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha', Didn't Make Waves In Its Wider Theatrical Release

WE SOMEHOW FEEL sad for Sharon Cuneta. In hindsight, it now becomes clear that doing the indie film “Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha” is not the right project for her to do a new movie after ten years. As a Cinemalaya entry, it did not win any awards, unlike other big stars who won best actress awards when they first joined Cinemalaya, such as Vilma Santos in “Ekstra” and Nora Aunor in “Hustisya”.

Not only that, when the movie was given a theatrical release, it laid a big fat egg at the box office. At SM North Edsa, it was quickly pulled out. At Trinoma, it’s relegated on a sliding arrangement with another movie. That it flopped is not surprising since the movie was just suddenly shown, without much hype or marketing or promotion, which is undeserved considering it’s a Sharon Cuneta comeback movie of sorts.

We feel sad for Ate Shawie because even if the movie is not the “pang-award” type, we honestly found it quite entertaining because of the hilarious interaction in several ribtickling scenes between Sharon and Moi Marcampo as her maid. Like what we wrote in our recent review of the movie, they appear to us a female version of the funny tandem of the late Dolphy and Panchito. And now, it’s said Ate Shawie will be doing a rom-com with Robin Padilla.

All we can say is we wish her good luck. We hope this will fare better at the box office than “Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha”. But if you’d ask us, we believe the best comeback movie for her would still be a reunion flick with ex-hubby Gabby Concepcion. It’s just too bad that Gabby is currently chained to a mammoth hit soap like “Ika-6 na Utos” which will be extended until next year considering it continues to hit it big in the ratings game, so he won’t be available to do the movie anytime soon.
