How Will Devaughn, Who Has No Pinoy Blood, Came To Manila & Why He Chose To Stay Here For Good

WILL DEVAUGHN now speaks much better Tagalog than other foreignoys who came to Manila to join local showbiz. “I have a good teacher,” he says, pointing to his girlfriend, Roxanne Barcelo. “May tutorials kami kaya mas fluent na ako sa Tagalog.”

He wants to make it clear that he doesn’t have any Filipino blood in him. “My mother is German and my dad is black American. I was born in Germany but also stayed in the States. I had a Filipina girlfriend in Longbeach, California. Her name is Rachel Piazza. Her mom wanted her to try showbiz so she moved here and we broke up. Then I got a call from her, baka we can work things out daw, so sumunod ako rito and we became together again. Nakuha agad to do a TV commercial for Closeup. Then we broke up again and she went back to the States pero ako, naiwan na rito. I chose to stay here because I fell in love with the Philippines.”

He has since done movies like “Desperadas 1 & 2” for Regal, “El Presidente”, and an international film called “Water Wars” for New Horizons Pictures. He has also joined “PBB Celebrity Edition” and was the 4th placer. He did soaps like “Love Spell”, “Bud Brothers”, “Habang May Buhay”, “Dwarfina”, “Indio” and he’s now seen in GMA-7’s morning show, “Trops”, aired before “Eat Bulaga”.

He has finished a new movie with Roxanne, “I Found My Heart in Santa Fe”, filmed on location in Bantayan Island, Cebu. “First time for me to go to Santa Fe and I just fell in love with the place. It’s like paradise. I’ve been to a lot of places at isa ito sa pinakamaganda kasi virgin pa. Hindi commercialized. You’ll see its beauty in the movie.”

“I Found My Heart in Santa Fe” will always be very special for him and Roxanne. “This is our first movie where we’re paired together and starring roles pa. We both fell in love with the material so much that we agreed to co-produce it with Director Bona Fajardo and his wife, Lyn. We’re now proud to show it as part of Cine Lokal to be shown on September 15 in various SM Cinemas. It has avery good love story and also shows the awesome beauty of the Philippines.”
