Gerald Anderson Wants To Make It Clear That 'Can We Still Be Friends' Not A Sequel To His And Arci Munoz' 'Always Be My Maybe'

GERALD ANDERSON wants to make something clear. “May nagtatanong kasi kung ang ‘Can We Still Be Friends?’ namin ni Arci Munoz is a sequel to our last year’s ‘Always Be My Maybe’,” he says. “The answer po is a big no. Iba po ang story ng ‘Can We Still’ at iba rin ang characters na ginagampanan namin ni Arci about former lovers na tinitingnan kung puede pa rin sila maging magkaibigan.”

Arci has declared that she cannot be friends with her ex. “Hindi ko pa kaya,” she said. What about Gerald? “Akala ko rin, hindi ko kaya, but when Kim (Chiu) and I were paired in our current show, ‘Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin’, dun ko na-realized na puede naman pala. The show helped para magkaroon ako ng chance na makasama uli si Kim at nagkakuwentuhan kami about each other’s lives. But it takes time to be friends again. Hindi puedeng bigla-bigla, friends na kayo uli. Dahan-dahan lang muna.”

How about his other ex-GF, Maja Salvador? “I’m very open about that kasi, sino ba ang gustong may kasamaan ng loob? I want to be always positive, but like I said, it takes time. E, sa ngayon, wala pa kaming chance to get together. But I believe that in due time, darating din yun and we can be friends again, when the right time comes.”

In “Can We Still Be Friends?” that opens today in theaters nationwide, Gerald plays Digs, a no-nonsense guy who’s always serious and organized. In contrast, Arci as Sam is a carefree overachiever. Eventually, they felt they no longer see each other eye to eye so they decide to separate. But can they still be friends? They’re directed in the movie by 29-year old Prime Cruz, who has made indie films before and now helms his first mainstream film for Star Cinema. So how is it working with a new director like Prime?

“It’s great,” says Gerald. “Since halos magkakasing-age lang kami, we can relate very well with each other. He’s very collaborative. He always asks for our ideas and if we’re comfortable in the scenes we shoot. I’m confident na magiging maganda ang kalalabasan ng movie namin.”
