PIOLO PASCUAL’S movie with Yen Santos, “Northern Lights: A Journey to Love”, shot on location last August in Queenstown, New Zealand (substituting for Alaska) will be shown in theaters on March 29. This is co-produced by Regal Entertainment, Star Cinema and Piolo’s own company, Spring Films.
Piolo plays Charlie in the film. He moved to Alaska with his mom and dad, Sandy Andolong and Tirso Cruz III, as a young man. He left his girlfriend, Maricar Reyes, in Manila already pregnant. He promised to return for her, and he did not forget his promise. But when he got back to Manila, she’s already with another man and he was so heartbroken. He went back to Alaska feeling bitter and became a playboy who entices women to go out on dates with him by showing them the fabulous Aurora Borealis or Northern Lights.
After eight years, he got a word from Maricar saying that she is dying and she is sending their son, Charlie Junior (Raiko Matteo), to him in Alaska to live with him. Since the boy is traveling alone, he is entrusted to another passenger who’s also going to Alaska to look for her long lost mother, a student named Angel (Yen Santos). Through Raiko, Piolo meets Yen and he asks her to stay in their house for a while as they’re renting out a room. In the process, beautiful music will develop between Piolo and Yen, with Raiko serving as the link between them.
Director Dondon Santos says the movie is about “A woman who wants to let go of the past, a man who thought he has moved on, and a boy who wants nothing but to start anew.” Also in the cast is comedian Jerald Napoles as Piolo’s best friend.
