RURU MADRID is happy to now have two regular shows. Monday to Friday, he is seen as the hunky Ybarro in “Encantadia” on primetime. Weekends, he is now a mainstay in “Sunday Pinasaya” along with his ka-love team, Gabbi Garcia. “Thank God ang daming blessings,” he says.
Everyone compliments him for his more bulky figure these days. “I need to be more physically fit for my role in ‘Encantadia’,” says Ruru, who started when he was just a skinny 14 year old and is now taller and heftier at 18. “Kasi ang Ybarro sa unang ‘Enca’ was played by Dingdong Dantes. When it was first announced na ako ang gaganap na Ybarro, ang dami kong bashing na natanggap. Hindi raw ako bagay. Nakaka-pressure kaya yun, kaya kailangang magpaganda rin ako ng katawan para naman hindi nakakahiya.”
So what did he do? “Nagbabad ako sa gym for the usual workouts, na sinamahan ko ng boxing, Muay Thai at pati na rin kickboxing. So ngayon, wala nang namba-bash sa’kin. Puro positive comments na ang nakukuha ko. It’s hard to do action kasi di maiwasang magkasakitan kayo. Nasipa na ako ni Pancho Magno nang todo sa dibdib. Nahulog ako sa bangin. But it’s all part of the job, so okay lang.”
And he’s glad he’s given the chance to do comedy in “Sunday Pinasaya”. “I’m learning so much from the show working with real comedians na sine-share ang talent nila sa’kin tungkol sa pagpapatawa. Mas natututo ako ng tamang delivery ng punchlines at ng, higit sa lahat, tamang comic timing.”
So he and Gabbi are now together almost every day of the week. What’s the real score between them these days? “Ganun pa rin po. Best of friends. Natutuwa kami dahil kung sa ‘Enca’, we do action and drama, dito naman sa ‘Sunday Pinasaya’, kumakanta kami, nagko-comedy. Ayaw naming madaliin ang mga bagay-bagay about us. It’s better to start as good friends muna. Ine-enjoy muna namin ang aming trabaho as of now.”
