At The 'Tubig At Langis' Presscon, Cristine Reyes' Take On Leading Man Zanjoe Marudo's Breakup With Bea Alonzo

CRISTINE REYES’ comeback soap, “Tubig at Langis”, is produced by RSB unit of Ruel S. Bayani, who’s also the business unit head of “Be My Lady”, with Gina Marissa Tagasa Gil as creative head. At its presscon, RSB quickly clarified that the show is not a remake of the late Danny Zialcita’s movie about bigamy, “Langis at Tubig”, which starred Vilma Santos, the late Dindo Fernando and Amy Austria. “Pero kahit malayo na ang story nito sa movie, nagpaalam pa rin kami sa pamilya ng yumaong Danny Zialcita at natuwa naman ang anak niya na humingi muna kami ng permiso sa kanila,” says RSB. “Ang binayaran namin dito ng rights is yung song, ‘Tubig at Langis’, at yun ang sinunod naming titulo for the soap.”

Cristine Reyes is happy to be doing a role previously portrayed by Vilma Santos in the original movie. She’s also glad to be reunited with Zanjoe Marudo. “Bale third time namin ito to work together,” she says. “The first was in ‘Precious Romances’ on TV then sa movie, ‘Bromance’.”

Did she notice anything different with Zanjoe now that he has just broken up with Bea Alonzo? “Actually, what I noticed is mas lalong gumaling at lumalim ang acting niya. Pero kung tungkol sa pinagdaraanan niya about his lovelife, sorry, wala akong napansin kasi ngayon ko nga lang nalaman dito sa presscon na nag-break sila. Busy kasi ako doing mommy duties kaya I can’t keep track of all the things happening in showbiz, e. Isa pa, Zanjoe is the quiet type. Hindi siya yung type na mago-open up sa’yo dahil lang magkapareha kayo.”

In “Tubig at Langis”, Cristine stars as Irene, an intelligent young woman who works hard for her family, with Lito Pimentel as her dad, Nadia Montenegro as her stepmom, and Marco Gumabao as her stepbrother. Her boyfriend, Victor Silayan, gets her pregnant and he turns out to be already married to Antoinette Taus. She’s raising her son by herself, until she meets again her childhood sweetheart, Zanjoe Marudo as Natoy, who still loves her very much even if she’s now an unwed mom.

Zanjoe marries her even if his own mom, Vivian Velez, and sister, Dionne Monsanto, are against it. Cristine becomes happy with Zanjoe until, some years laters, Zanjoe meets a provincial lass, Isabelle Daza as Clara, the oppressed daughter of Efren Reyes, with whom he has a hot affair. What will Cristine do when she discovers Zanjoe’s infidelity? Don’t miss the premiere telecast of “Tubig at Langis” on February 1, directed by FM Reyes.
