Benjie Paras A Proud Father To Son Benjie Who Now Has A Flourishing Acting Career

BENJIE PARAS is happy to be acting with his panganay, Andre Paras, in their first movie together, Viva's horror comedy, "Wang Fam". "This is our first movie together at nakakatuwa kasi we really play father and son kaya marami kaming eksena na magkasama," he says. "Nagkaka-bonding time tuloy kami."

What can he say about Andre enjoying showbiz? "At first, akala ko hindi niya magugustuhan kasi he was then into basketball, which gave him a scholarship in high school and college. Then offers to try showbiz came and he told me gusto niyang subukan. So he did, but we didn't expect that it would go this far na may TV show siya and movies, plus endorsements pa."

Does he give Andre any advice about being an actor? "It was in 'Diary ng Pangit' that I noticed his acting potential. First movie pa lang niya yun, but he did good, lalo na sa timing niya, so I told him na he has a good future sa showbiz. Then dumating ang offer ng GMA-7 to do an afternoon drama, 'Half Sisters', na leading man siya. It clicked with viewers kaya it's still on after more than a year on the air and gets consistently high ratings. With his hectic taping schedules, I asked him to choose kung saan niya mas gusto mag-focus, basketball or showbiz, kasi I know it will be very hard to give his time and attention to both, lalo't may college studies pa siya, and he decided na mas gusto niyang magpatuloy sa acting. I told him to always internalize the character he plays before facing the cameras so he can act out his role more convincingly. Sinabi ko ring matuto siyang makisama sa lahat, from his co-stars to the director and crew para hindi siya
maging sakit ulo ng sinuman. Importante rin for him to always give his 100 percent in all his projects."

And how is it working with Pokwang as his leading lady in "Wang Fam"? "We never thought magki-click kami as a love team, pero nang pagtambalin kami sa 'Nathaniel' ng ABS, naging maganda ang response sa amin ng viewers. So from TV, heto, may pelikula na kami. Masarap siyang katrabaho kasi game na game siya. May love scene pa nga kami rito sa loob ng isang tent na siya ang mas agresibo. Nakakaaliw yung movie kasi we play a family of vampires at maraming nakakatuwang sitwasyong ginawa si Direk Wenn Deramas para sa amin. Tiyak na mage-enjoy ang viewers."
"Wang Fam" opens in theaters on November 18.
