Sam Milby Lost His Luster These Past Few Years, Here's Hoping Regal's 'Prenup' With Jennylyn Mercado Will Bring It Back

SAM MILBY is turning 31 tomorrow, May 23. He was only 21 when he joined the very first Pinoy Big Brother as a balikbayan from the U.S. Now, 10 years later, admit or not, Sam’s star has somehow lost its luster. He currently doesn’t star in any top teleserye. His last soaps were “Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala” (where he was more of a contravida as an abusive husband) and “Dyesebel” (where he played second lead to Gerald Anderson as a syokoy in love with Anne Curtis.)

In the movies, he made a very wrong move when he turned down “English Only, Please”, which went to Derek Ramsay, became a blockbuster and won a best actor award for Derek. Instead, he played anti-hero roles in his last films, “Kimmy Dora 3: Kiyemeng Prequel” and “The Gifted”, which sadly, didn’t help forward his career as a lead actor. The fact that he’s staying a lot in Hollywood to audition in new TV shows is another factor why his local career was affected badly. It’s not wrong to try to make it in Hollywood, but as they say, out of sight, out of mind.

Well, here’s hoping that Regal Entertainment will succeed in bringing back the luster in his career in “Prenup”, where he plays leading man to Jennylyn Mercado in a movie to be shot on location in New York no less. “Prenup” refers to a pre-nuptial agreement that both bride and groom sign to prove that they have no interest in acquiring each other’s riches in case their marriage ends in failure. Does Sam believe in it? “Not really,” he says. “When two people get married, it should be their love for each other which should matter. Hindi kung ano yung napagkasunduan.”

Sam was the best man to John Prats when John was married to Isabel Oli at the Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage Chapel in Lipa City last Saturday, May 16. The maid of honor was Angelica Panganiban. Both Sam and Angelica are the best friends of John after they worked together in some comedy shows at ABS-CBN. Sam and John are both 31 years old. Isn’t he obvious that best John has now settled down?
“No, I plan to get married when I’m 35,” he says.

That’s four years from now. The problem is he has yet to meet his Miss right. His last serious relationship was with Anne Curtis. That was more than five years ago and Anne is now very happy in the arms of Erwan Heussaff.
