Vilma Santos' 'Ekstra' Wins Big In Worldfest Houston International Festival, Along With Three Other Local Films

CONGRATULATIONS to the Philippine entries that won honors in the 48th Worldfest Houston-St. Louis International Film Festival. “Ekstra, The Bit Player” won the Platinum Award in the comedy category and its, director, Jeffrey Jeturian was there to personally claim the trophy. And not only that, in the awards night finale, “Ekstra” also won the best foreign feature film award.


This is what Director Jeturian told their producer, Atty. Joji Alonso: “Grabe, hindi namin talaga expected yung best foreign feature film award. Yun ang huling award that was announced. We never even thought we were in the running for that. We are so happy for Ate Vi (Vilma Santos, the title roler in “Ekstra”.) They just love her here.”

 

Other winners are: “Kamkam (Greed)”, directed by Joel Lamangan, won the Gold Award in the mature theme category.
 “Asintado (Between the Eyes)”, directed by Louie Ignacio, won the Gold Award in the children’s film category. Ignacio was also present to receive the honor.
“Dementia”, directed by Perci Intalan, won the Gold Award in horror/ fantasy category.
