Glaiza De Castro Launches 'Synthesis' Album And Talks About Her Lesbian Role In 'The Rich Man's Daughter'

GLAIZA DE CASTRO introduced her own album, “Synthesis”, to the press at Runner’s Kitchen, an organic resto at Creekside Square along Morato Avenue that she owns with Heart Evangelista, Bianca King, Direk Rico Gutierrez and other associates. Why is it called Runner’s Kitchen? “Kasi, lahat kami, magkakasamang tumatakbo sa UP Oval kung weekend,” she says.

She will soon launch “Synthesis” on “Sunday All Stars”. The album is an answered prayer for her as she has put all her heart and soul into the eight original songs in it, most of which she herself composed. “This is the way I express myself through music,” she says. “Sa taping, I bring my guitar and in between takes, I write my songs.”

Why is the album’s title Synthesis? “It came from Benjamin Alves and the songs are a mixture of various genres that have influenced me, from pop to rock and other song. It’s also very apt for the album as it’s a collaboration between him and other friends. Alessandra de Rossi sings the song ‘Memo’ in the album, Angelica Panganiban wrote the lyrics for ‘Barcelona’ and I did the melody, Chynna Ortaleza did the album’s artwork. Noon pa ko nagpe-pray about having my own album but I realized hindi muna ibibigay sa’yo whatever you pray for, kasi may tamang panahon, may perfect timing and ito na yun ngayon with my friends.”

The carrier single “Dusk Til Dawn” (which comes with a music video you can now watch in MYX and youtube) delivers a relaxing vibe that surely all indie music fans will enjoy. The chill and feel good album’s other songs are “Country Tree”, “Waiting Shed”, “Makataruok”, “Memo”, “Sa’Yo Pa Rin”, "Barcelona" and “Pag-ikot”, distributed by Home Works.

She’s been linked before to Felix Roco and Patrick Garcia. Right now, it’s reported she’s playing beautiful music with Benjamin Alves. “No, we’re just good friends after magkasama kami sa ‘Dading’. May nanliligaw sa’kin ngayong non-showbiz, hinihingi permiso ng parents ko para dumalaw sa bahay, but I’m not ready as I’m so busy. Inaasikaso ko launch ng album and I’ll have mall shows, radio tours, tapos we’re taping pa ‘The Rich Man’s Daughter’. Imagine, inulit namin lahat ng eksenang nakunan with Marian Rivera ngayong si Rhian Ramos na ang pumalit sa kanya. About 70 percent na ng story ang nakunan namin with Marian, so uulitin lahat yun.”

How did she feel when Marian resigned? “Of course, I felt so sad kasi I know she really pushed for me to play the role of Althea. Naging good friends talaga kami after we did ‘Amaya’ and ‘Temptation of Wife’, kaya comfortable na kami sa isa’t isa. Siempre naintindihan naman namin siya when she explained she had to do it para sa magiging anak nila.”

Isn’t she worried rumors questioning her femininity might float now that she’s doing a lengguaserye? “No, secure ako sa pagkababae ko. Lalake talaga ang gusto ko. Pero siempre, may girl crush din naman ako.”
Who? “Si Solenn (Heussaff). Ang sexy niya, di ba?”

So how does she feel about Rhian? “I believe in Rhian’s talent. Nagkasama na kami sa ‘Stairway to Heaven’ before na inaapi-api ko siya. This time, ibang atake naman. Kinunan na yung eksenang nakikipag-break siya sa’kin at umiiyak ako sa kanya at nakikiusap na huwag niya kong iwanan.”

Will they have a kissing scene? “Wala pa. Meron kami shots na nose to nose, noo to noo. Pareho kami femme dito, mga lesbian na mukhang babae pa rin. Ang butch ditong nagdadamit lalaki, si Chynna Ortaleza who plays my best friend. Katrina Halili plays my ex-lover na iniwan ko at inaaway-away si Rhian. Abangan nyo when it starts showing on May 11 to replace ‘Second Chances’.”
