GLADYS REYES AND DONITA ROSE united in “Let the Love Begin”. “This time, aarte naman kami,” says Gladys. “At pareho kaming kontrabida rito kay Ai Ai de las Alas. Ako si DJ named Katy Fairy, karibal sa radio ni Ai Ai who plays DJ Jeni.”
“Ako naman, I play Celeste, karibal ni Ai Ai kay Gardo Versoza,” says Donita. “Akong nagtagumpay kasi akong pinakasalan ni Gardo. I’m so excited dahil first time ko to do a soap.”
“Sa set, walang tigil ang tsikahan namin kaya hirap ang production staff na tawagin kami kapag take na,” adds Gladys.
Is she aware that Donita’s marriage is said to be on the rocks? “Naku, siya na lang ang tanungin nyo. All I can say is anuman ang pinagdaraanan nila ngayon, confident akong malalampasan nila basta wag silang titigil sa pananalangin. Kami ng husband ko (Christopher Roxas), dumaan din kami sa ganyan and it really helps na may faith kayong dalawa sa Diyos para maayos ang inyong problema. Malaking tulong sa kanya itong umaarte siya sa ‘Let the Love Begin’ to help take her mind off her problems.”
Donita herself admits she and her husband are going through a difficult phase. “Just like any other couple, we are really going through difficult times right now in our relationship. As in any marriage, may trials talagang mangyayari. Pero hindi ko muna bibigyan ng tuldok. Kasi naniniwala akong God will bring us back together, for the sake of our son. Darating siya rito soon and we will talk. I’m hoping that things will work out. I’ll just leave it at that muna. Ipagdasal nyo rin kami, please.”
She admits she’s nervous doing “Let the Love Begin”. “Kasi naman, first time kong gumawa ng soap. At first time ko ring magkontrabida, kay Ms. Ai Ai de las Alas pa. Siempre, careful ako, ayokong matarayan niya ko. Love triangle kami rito with Gardo Versoza.”
Donita joined showbiz via “That’s Entertainment” in 1989 when she was just 15 years old. She was launched in “Katabi Ko’y Mamaw” and did hit movies and TV shows like “Alabang Girls” and “Ober Da Bakod”. She gained fame as a VJ in Singapore. When she got married, she settled with husband Eric Villarama in the States and found a new career in being a chef. She celebrated her 40th birthday last November 5. She really misses hosting and acting so she returned to Manila, leaving her husband in the U.S.
“If I’ll be a chef for the rest of my life, I’ll be unhappy because hindi lang yun ang calling ko. My husband understands it but then, he feels he also has his own calling. Right now, I’m smack in the middle of everything. It’s difficult for me to really talk about it not knowing where it’s really going at this point. But I’m hopeful. I still believe in love.”
