Gabby Eigenmann Should Get Tips From Dad Mark Gil & Brother Sid Lucero About Playing Gay Roles

GABBY EIGENMANN is happy but somewhat scared to play his first title role in a bekiserye where he’ll play a gay father. Titled “Dading” (for daddyng bading), this is scheduled to air starting June 23 on GMA-7. Sharing topbilling with him are Glaiza de Castro, Benjamin Alves, Chynna Ortaleza, Gardo Versoza, Tobey Alejar, Mymy Davao and Shara Mae Diligero, written by Denoy Punio and directed by Ricky Davao.

“Sa story conference pa lang, I already realized na malaking pressure para sa’kin ang role na ito but kami ng buong cast are all challenged to make it work,” he says. “We’re all excited and looking forward to working with each other. Hindi lang siya basta ordinaryong project lang, pinag-isipan ito ng GMA and we’re just so lucky and blessed to be part of this.”

Gabby already played a gay before in “Magpakailanman”. “But it’s just one episode, hindi gaya nito that will run for several months, so talagang pinaghahandaan ko itong ‘Dading’. Full length na kasi ito, e. I want my interpretation to be different para hindi ako basta mai-compare sa ibang actors who have played gay roles before on screen.”

He can definitely ask for tips for his dad, Mark Gil, who’s currently nominated as Urian best actor for his role as the gay painter in love with a male hustler in Cinema One’s “Philippino Story”. As a matter of fact, Mark has already won an Urian best supporting actor award for his portrayal of Christopher de Leon’s gay admirer in the late Lino Brocka’s “Palipat-lipat Papalit-Palit” in 1982. He can also get tips from his half-brother Sid Lucero who won best actor awards for gay roles in “Muli” and “Selda”.
