Ellen Adarna Nearly Quit Showbiz Before Moving To ABS-CBN

ELLEN ADARNA corrected those who say that “My Illegal Wife” is her first movie. “It’s my first movie sa Skylight/Star Cinema but I’ve done ‘Basement’ sa GMA Films, where I played the manananggal in the basement, and I played the title role in Direk Gil Portes’ ‘Ang Tag-Araw ni Twinkle’ for which I got good reviews naman,” she says.

“My Illegal Wife” is her first comedy film. “I did comedy noon sa ‘Bubble Gang’, pero sa big screen, first ko ito. I play Clarize, with a Z, kasi si Pokwang, Clarise din ang name but with an S. Ako ang tunay na girlfriend dito ni Zanjoe Marudo, pero nang magka-amnesia siya, pinapaniwala siya ni Pokwang na mag-asawa sila, kaya ‘My Illegal Wife’ ang title’. May confrontation scene kami rito ni Pokwang na ginagaya namin sina Angel Locsin and Maja Salvador sa ‘The Legal Wife’.”

She was supposed to be the leading lady of Vhong Navarro in ‘Da Possessed’ but she was replaced by Solenn Heussaff’. “I’m glad heto ang naging kapalit as I really enjoyed shooting this with Pokwang, Zanjoe and Direk Tony Reyes. Masaya kami sa set tuwing shooting.”

She reveals that she nearly quit from showbiz because she felt nothing was happening to her career. “Gusto ko na ngang umuwi sa parents ko sa Cebu then, but my manager told me na i-try namin ang ABS-CBN and heto nga, may ‘Moon of Desire’ ako on TV and now, may movie pa ako. So I can’t complain.”

How does she feel that she’s being projected as a sexy star? “Well, we’re paid to look good at kung ganoon ang gusto nilang image for me, okay lang. But honestly, I don’t think of myself as sexy. Sa bahay nga, ni wala akong make up at butas-butas na T-shirt ang suot ko.”
