GLORIA ROMERO is back in a new soap, “Nino”, that starts airing on Monday after “24 Oras”. “Matagal din akong nag-rest kasi my last soap was ‘Akin Pa rin ang Bukas’ pa with Lovi Poe that ended in December,” she says. “Hindi na rin naman ako puede yung sunod-sunod na trabaho kasi I’m turning 81 this December. But I like my role here in ‘Nino’ kasi ako yung groovy at kalog na lola ni Miguel Tanfelix, who plays the title role. Pilya ako but very positive ang personality as the lola. Maganda ang values na pinapakita sa ‘Nino’ and it’s very child friendly. Ang layo lang ng location namin, sa Pagsanjan at Magdalena in Laguna kasi kailangan, may coconut plantation. Mahaba ang biyahe, so I have to wake up at 4 AM to make sure makarating ako on time sa set namin. May cut off naman ako sa taping at 12 midnight.”
How’s her daughter Maritess and grandson Christopher? “Maritess is now the chef and a partner doon sa events venue ni Mother Lily while Christopher has finished his culinary course. Umalis na siya sa ABS-CBN but will still pursue an acting career, this time with TV5. He’ll start taping for them in June.”
How does she take good care of her health? “I still eat everything but, usually, patikim-tikim na lang ako. I don’t overeat. And I exercise. I go up and down sa stairs namin until I perspire. I also love working in our garden. Ayoko namang mag-retire. It’s nice to still be active as an actress, kaysa naman nakatunganga ka lang sa bahay. Basta ang request ko lang, hindi ako masyadong pagod sa trabaho.”
