Alwyn Uytingco Feels Tense These Days As His 'Beki Boxer' Starts Airing This Week

IT’S NOT SURPRISING for Alwyn Uytingco is feeling tense these days as his launching show, TV5’s “Beki Boxer”, will start airing tonight at 7 PM. “Panay nga ang dasal ko na sana panoorin naman ng mga tao para magtagal kami sa ere,” he says. “We guarantee namang maaaliw sila nang husto.”

The show is originally meant to be shown just once a week. “But after our executives saw the pilot episode, nasiyahan sila and decided na gawing daily ito,” says Joann Banaga, the show’s producer. “We’re offering alternative entertainment to all the dramas being offered on primetime. This started with ‘Madam Chairman’ and ‘Confessions of a Torpe’ at followup itong ‘Beki Boxer’. Everyone who saw the pilot praises Alwyn a lot as Rocky Ponciano, kasi ang galing talaga niya in the title role.”

We got to watch the pilot episode and one of the best things in it is child actor Rain Quite, who has appeared in such soaps as “Home Sweet Home” and “Lorenzo’s Time”, as the young Rocky Ponciano. He’s such a natural as a boy who really wants to play with dolls and girlie things but has to fight himself and act like a real man in front of his parents, Christian Vasquez and Candy Pangilinan. His dad is also a boxer who was censured by the whole community when he sold a boxing match. Rocky resolves to regain their family’s reputation and becomes a boxer himself when he grows up and becomes Alwyn. Alwyn has two leading ladies here, Danita Paner as Chloe and newcomer Claire Ruiz as Venus, but his true love is a young co-boxer, Vin Abrenica as Atong. Also in the cast are Olympian boxer Onyok Velasco as Rocky’s ninong and coach, Cholo Barretto as Rocky’s homophobic brother Elorde, Joross Gamboa as Rocky’s gay confidante Madonna and John Regala as the villainous boxing promoter Ignacio. The show is directed by Jade Castro and Monti Parungao who both believe that it’s high time for the very talented Alwyn to be launched in his own show.
