CHRISTIAN BAUTISTA is all set to leave for Japan on November 26 to represent our country in the Asean-Japan Music Festival for Healing after the earthquake that rocked the country in 2011. It will be held at the NHK Hall in Shibuya, Japan which seats 4,000 people and will be aired in Japan’s NHK Channel.

“I was so surprised when the Japanese Embassy called me to say they’ve chosen me and it’s an honor to be selected among our so many singers as all Asian countries will be there like Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Brunei, Malaysia and the rest,” he says. “It’s their way of remembering the friendship among ASEAN nations who all aimed to help Japan after the killer quake. I hope we can stage something like that later to thank all the countries who are helping us now with the victims of Yolanda. Incidentally, while I’m there, hihingi na rin ako ng tulong for the victim’s of the world’s biggest typhoon in the Visayas. If Japan succeeded to rise again after the disaster that struck them, I believe magagawa din natin yun. The whole world is looking at the Philippines right now and I know we will show them we’re all made of stronger stuff. I will be singing two of my own songs, ‘The Way You Look at Me’ and a song that fits people who suffered from a calamity, ‘Invincible’.”

So what’s his next project on GMA-7 after the morning light romance “With a Smile”? “As of now, I’m still in ‘Sunday All Stars’. I’m also busy doing the musical ‘Cinderella’ with Karylle at Resorts World until December. I’m hoping they’ll trust me later to do more challenging serious stuff, heavy drama, and I want to prepare for that by taking acting workshops. At sana, sa primetime naman. But all my next projects, including my next album, will be for next year na kasi 2013 is about to end. I’m looking forward to 2014 for better projects. As of now, hindi lang higher talent fee or more exposure ang concern ko but something that hopefully will bring me to the next level and help me hone my talent further. I’d also like to try doing a new movie. I did ‘Mano Po 5’ before, more of a comedy, and ‘Special Symphony’ in Indonesia. Gusto ko namang sumubok ng isang serious material for a movie dito sa atin. I also want to do another stage musical next year, sana the stage version of Baz Luhrman’s ‘Moulin Rouge’, kung papaya siya.”

About his lovelife, Christian’s heart is resting after his breakup with Carla Dunareanu. “Trabaho muna tayo, lalo na ngayon, papunta rin ako sa Guam and I’m always travelling, mahirap mag-maintain ng lovelife.”
