Rapper Gloc 9's "Magda" quickly climbed up the Top Ten charts in MYX

DO YOU KNOW who Aristotle Pollisco is? Probably not, because you know him better as Gloc-9, the award winning, fast talking rapper best known for such hits as “Sirena”, “Upuan”, “Walang Natira” and “Sari-Saring Kuwento”. His relevant compositions deal with social issues like poverty and homosexuality.

Born on Oct. 18, 1977 in Binangonan, he first helped out in their family’s sari-sari store then acted as barker for his dad who’s a jeepney driver plying the Binangonan-Cainta route. As a hiphop artist, he started as member of the gangsta rap group called Death Threat. He has since won all sorts of music awards for his songs, from Katha to Awit to MYX.

He started with Star Records then moved to Sony Music. Last year, he joined Universal Records with his album “Mga Kuwento ng Makata”, which spawned “Sirena”. Now, he releases a new album under the Universal label, “Liham at Lihim”, successfully launched to a huge crowd at Eastwood City last Saturday night. He collaborates with many top artists in the various songs in the album, with Regine Velasquez in “Takip Silim”, Rico Blanco in “Magda”, Marc Abaya in “Tsinelas sa Putikan”, Zia Quizon in “Tulad ng Iba”, Denise Barbacena in “Hindi Spat”, Quest in “Siga”, Sly Kane in “Huminahon Ka”, Eunice Jorge of Gracenote in “KMT”, Kamikazee and other artists in “Kunwari”. His solo numbers in the album are “Rap Ka Nga”, “Kuwento Mo” and “Itak ni Andres”.

“Magda”, the carrier single, tells a story and it features Jennylyn Mercado and Alex Vincent Medina in its music video which quickly climbed up the Top Ten charts in MYX. Jen and Alex are childhood sweethearts who lost track of each other. Alex sees Jen (who plays Magda) again in a club, now a woman of the night. It’s all quite touching. He admits his influence is Freddie Aguilar’s previous song entitled “Magdalena”. How did they convince Jennylyn to play the title role?

“As I was writing the song, siya na ang image na pumasok sa isip ko as Magda,” says Gloc-9. “Siya kasi yung type ng beauty na habang tinititigan mo, mas lalong gumaganda. May certain pain din sa kanyang mga mata na bagay sa character ni Magda.”

So he must be the reason why Luis Manzano called it quits with Jen? “Naku, ang involvement ko po sa kanya, hanggang sa music video lang. Anything about her personal life, wala na akong kinalaman doon. Meron po akong sariling maybahay.”

Gloc’s wife is named Thea and they have twin children, now 9 years old, a boy named Sean Daniel and a girl named Danielle Sean. For more news about Gloc-9, you can follow him on the net:
