Now That Megan Young Wins As Miss World, Will Mikael Daez Still Deny Her?

THE FIRST TIME we met Megan Young was when she was a contestant in Star Struck 2 in 2005. She placed third, with Ryza Cenon as the female winner and LJ Reyes as the first runner up. She was just 15 then, but already tall and statuesque. Everyone was asking her then if she’d join a beauty pageant and she said she’s scared as she’s too young. But look at her now, eight years later, she’s the country’s first Miss World title-holder in the 63-year history of the pageant where we previously had only first runners up like Vangie Pascual and Gwen Ruais.

Megan stayed with GMA until 2007 but she was never given any substantial role. She obviously was not satisfied with them and moved to ABS-CBN Star Magic where she joined PBB Celebrity Edition, helped host “Us Girls” and did supporting roles in “Kokey”, “Betty La Fea” and “Ruby”. She was given a lead role in the afternoon soap “Hiyas”. Then early this year, she was allowed to be borrowed by TV5 where she did “Never Say Goodbye” and “Misibis Bay”. When the 2013 Miss World Philippines was held, GMA-7 got the franchise so she went back to her original station.

Megan joined the pageant at the right time. After 8 years in showbiz as actress and TV host, she has honed herself in facing the crowd, gained so much poise and confidence and is ready to face the world. And indeed she didn’t just face it but conquered it now as Miss World. Congratulations!

Her runners up were Miss France and Miss Ghana. Others who made it to the top 10 were Brazil, Spain, Gibraltar, Australia, Nepal, England, Indonesia and Jamaica.

One thing with Megan is she has always remained very friendly. The last time we saw her was when we had dinner together on the beach while they were taping “Misibis Bay” on location in Bicol. She was still nervous then about joining Miss World Philippines but she enlisted the help of Jonas Gaffud, who has trained various beauty pageant winners, to help her. Jonas was then still the manager of her rumored boyfriend, Mikael Daez. Now that Megan is Miss World, perhaps Mikael will not deny her anymore.
