“Sobra kasi kaming magka-vibes ni Uge,” she says. “Talagang nagmamahalan kami. I really look forward to each shooting day kasi ganado ako dahil masaya kami lagi sa set.”
How is it being directed by Wenn Deramas? “He’s a blessing sa aming lahat. Magaan ang atmosphere sa set dahil sa kanya. Walang pressure.”
In the story, she plays the mother of Billy Crawford while Uge is the mother of Andi Eigenmann. When their children decide to marry each other, Maricel and Billy make “pamanhikan” to the family of Andi. But when Maricel and Uge meet, it turns out they are mortal enemies from way back and both object to the wedding. But as luck would have it, the two of them get stranded in a deserted island. They start out very hostile to each other, but since they have no choice but to depend on another, they eventually relent and become more friendly as days go by, especially when they are chased by a fierce lion in the jungle.
“Maraming nakakatawang eksena sa pelikula,” adds Maria. “I’m not saying this dahil kasali ako sa movie. Talaga lang magaling si Direk Wenn mag-isip ng hilarious scenes kaya kami mismo ni Uge, natatawa habang sinu-shoot namin ang eksena.”
How is it working with Billy and Andi for the first time? “Ay, mababait na mga bata. Nakakatuwa sila kasi ang feeling talaga nila, kami ni Uge ang mothers nila. Naging maganda ang bonding naming lahat while making the movie. Chikahan kami lagi sa set. We enjoyed doing it so I’m sure the viewers will also enjoy watching it. Kasama rin namin dito sina Joey Paras, Candy Pangilinan, Divina Valencia, Mel Martinez, Luz Valdez at marami pang iba.”
The movie opens in theatres on September 18. We hope it won’t suffer the same fate of local films released lately that all did badly at the tills. Well, for one thing, Wenn Deramas is a noted hitmaker with consecutive hits like “Praybeyt Benjamin” and “Sisterakas”, so we’re sure he’s not gonna miss on this one and hopefully make Maricel Soriano’s comeback flick also a big box office blockbuster.
