Gov. Vilma Santos On The Reported Pregnancy Of Her Prospective Daughter In Law Jennylyn Mercado

WHAT CAN Gov. Vilma Santos say about current rumors that her prospective daughter in law, Jennylyn Mercado, is now preggy?

“Naku, I’m sure hindi totoo yun,” she says. “Very supportive ako sa kanila ng anak kong si Luis, so kung mangyayari yan, I’ll be the first to know dahil wala naman silang inililihim sa akin.”

How about the story that some camps are preparing to convince her to run for higher office like the vice presidency or the presidency when her term as Batangas Governor ends in 2016?

“Ni sa guni-guni, hindi ko hinahangad yan. Being VP or president is no joke, so ni hindi ko papangarapin yan. Grabeng trabaho yan at responsibilidad. Utang na loob, hayaan na lang nila akong mabuhay ng masaya.”

But like what she says, everything is destined. “Yes, destiny yan. Kung nakatakda talaga, hindi mo malalabanan. Kamukha ko, never akong nag-aspire maging mayor or governor, pero nangyari. Hindi natin masasabi, pero nakakatakot. I won’t actively aspire for it.”

What happened to the proposal of Direk Dante Mendoza to make her a movie with Nora Aunor? “Okay ako diyan, walang problema. Naka-four movies na rin kami ni Mareng Guy, last yung ‘Ikaw ay Akin’. Pero depende kung mabibigyan kami ng magandang script. Sa tinagal-tagal namin sa industriya, we need a good script para hindi kami mapahiya. I told Direk Dante to send me the script pero hindi na siya bumalik sa akin.”

We’d just like to correct Gov. Vi. Her last movie with Ate Guy is “Ang T-Bird at Ako” directed by Danny Zialcita in 1983 (exactly 30 years ago). “Ikaw ay Akin” directed by Ishmael Bernal was made in 1978. Also, Direk Dante seldom writes a full script in the films he does, so the script Gov. Vi is expecting from him might never come.

“Ekstra” opens today in theatres nationwide and it will have its international premiere on September 8 as an official entry in the Toronto International Filmfest Contemporary World Cinema programme. Representing the film will be Director Jeffrey Jeturian, producer Ferdinand Lapuz and Cinemalaya best supporting actress winner Ruby Ruiz. Gov. Vi herself cannot go as she is busy with her duties as Batangas Governor.
