Vilma Santos Competes With Althea Vega, Lovi Poe, Rosanna Roces And Alex De Rossi As Best Actress

FOR THE BENEFIT of those who say that Vilma Santos will be up against Gretchen Barretto as best actress in the coming Cinemalaya Filmfest that opens on July 26 at the CCP, we just want to make it clear that they are not at all competing since they belong to different categories. Gov. Vi is in the Director’s Showcase categories for filmmakers who have already directed three full length films in the past. La Greta is in the New Wave category for new directors.

Gov. Vi’s entry is Director Jeffrey Jeturian’s much anticipated “Ekstra, The Bit Player” and her competitors will be Althea Vega as the native girl who marries a Spaniard in Cesar Evangelista’s period film “Amor Y Muerte”, Angel Aquino and Rosanna Roces in the sex-filled Adolf Alix entry “Porno”, Lovi Poe as the bride who’s having second thoughts due to a dead lover in Jerrold Tarog’s “Sana Dati” and Alessandra de Rossi as the reporter who uncovers a baseball scam in Gil Portes’ “The Liars”. Direk Jeff Jeturian says he doesn’t mind if he’d lose as best director or their movie “Ekstra” would not be proclaimed best picture, as long as Gov. Vi is the one who’d win the best actress plum. But what if the jurors would play KJ and do the unthinkable? Make Althea Vega the best actress over Gov. Vi?
