Three Sons Of Pen Medina Are Now All Acting In Local Showbiz: Which One Is The Best?

FOR ALEX MEDINA, it pays to have a manager like Manny Valera who takes good care of his talents. Alex is well publicized as the lead actor in the Cinemalaya entry, “Babagwa (Spider’s Lair)”, because of Manny’s own efforts. Compare this to his elder brother, Ping Medina, who has two entries in Cinemalaya no less, but has no publicity at all. Ping plays the lead role of the OFW father in Israel who’s protecting his son from immigration authorities who want to deport him in Hannah Espia’s “Transit”. He also plays a supporting role in Gil Portes’ “Liars” as the grownup baseball player who got involved in cheating as a boy.

Someone wrote that Alex is character actor Pen Medina’s youngest son. This is not true as the youngest son is actually Karl Medina, who has also joined showbiz as an actor. Karl is being introduced playing the lead role of the young communist Jose Maria Sison in “The Guerilla is a Poet”, an entry in CineFilipino Filmfest this September directed by Sari and Kiri Dalena. So there are now a total of three Pen Medina sons in showbiz.
