Luna Awards Ignored By Stars Who Won In Their Own Industry Awards Night

WE WERE surprised when we learned the Luna Awards was held at the QC Sports Club last Saturday. As one writer exclaimed after hearing about this: “Meron pa pala niyan. Bakit inililihim nila? Ni hindi man lang natin nabalitaan.”

The Luna is called the industry awards at it comes from the Film Academy of the Philippines or FAP. Sadly, though, it’s not supported by industry members at all. The biggest evidence is the fact that none of the winners were present in the awards night: John Lloyd Cruz as best actor, Ronaldo Valdez as best supporting actor and Hilda Koronel as best supporting actress, all for “The Mistress” and Angel Locsin for “One More Try”. We’re told even the winners in the technical categories were no shows. We think that this, in itself, is a very valid comment on the true state of the local film industry.

We’re also perplexed that the movie that the Film Academy chose to send to the Oscars as our official entry in the Foreign Language Film category, “Bwakaw”, was totally ignored. How John Lloyd won over Eddie Garcia in “Bwakaw” will forever be a mystery for us.
