Vice Ganda's Offensive Kind Of Humor And What It Says About Our Audience

WE’RE NOT really a fan of Vice Ganda’s transgressive kind of humor that goes beyond the usual boundaries and violates propriety. But after all is said and done, it’s the general public who tolerates him and loves him, making his “Gandang Gabi Vice” a big hit on TV and his movies “Praybeyt Benjamin” and “Sisterakas” some of the biggest blockbusters in the history of Philippine cinema. So, in the end, what does that say of us and our audiences who laugh out loud when he’s insulting and making fun of other people in the name of entertainment? How can you argue when Vice and ABS-CBN are laughing all the way to the bank? In this materialistic world of ours, financial profit rules and the cash registers ringing merrily is enough excuse to do anything on the air. Discretion and delicadeza be damned!
