So how’s his lolo and lola who were big stars in Premiere Productions in the 1950s? “My grandpa (who was the local version of Elvis Presley then best known for films like “Diyes Isang Kanta” and “Hawaiian Boy”) is still doing shows for Filipino communities there. My grandma naman really wants to come back to Manila and act again. Kaya lang, sabi niya, baka wala na raw siyang puwang sa showbiz. Sabi ko naman, she should come back kasi her contemporaries then, like Tita Gloria Romero and Tita Celia Rodriguez, are still very active even in teleseryes. I’m sure may kukuha agad sa kanya.”
He gained weight while he was there, 12 lbs., so the first thing he did when he came home is to lose weight. “Ayokong mamemohan na magpapayat ako,” he jokes, referring to his cousin Geoff who was told by GMA management to slim down. “Mahirap, kasi ang family namin, tabain.”
Even his own brother, Sid Lucero, is quite overweight now. “Pero hindi naman ako pan-leading man na gaya nila. I’m just glad na nabigyan din ako ng GMA-7 ng chance to do a lead role in ‘Broken Vow’.”
He now plays a father role in “Mundo Mo’y Akin” as Ziggy, the son of Jaclyn Jose who thinks Lauren Young is her daughter when, in fact, her real daughter is the ugly Louise de los Reyes.
“Because of the show’s good ratings, we’ve just been informed na extended kami for four more weeks. So instead of 16, magiging 20 weeks kami. Maraming mangyayari in the next few weeks dahil mare-reveal na ang totoong si Louise as Marilyn ang tunay na anak namin ni Angelika de la Cruz, pero hindi ako maniniwala kasi nga ayoko sa mga pangit.”
