Solenn Heussaff Gets Praised For Something She Never Aspired To Do

SOLENN HEUSSAFF is getting uniformly positive reviews for her performance as the “half Filipina, half palaka” girl obsessed with Richard Gomez in “Seduction”. The irony of it is that she never thought she’d be an effective actress.

“When I returned from my studies in Paris, I thought I’d just be a model or a designer,” she says. “But they asked me to join showbiz. I said I’m gonna be a singer as I know I can sing, but then the offers for acting came one after another.”

Since she joined showbiz, she has won a couple of best new movie actress awards for “Temptation Island” and was nominated as Urian best supporting actress for “Yesterday Today Tomorrow”. Even in the comedies she did, “Boy Pickup” and “D Kilabots”, she got much praise for her effortless kind of comedy, stealing scenes from more veteran title rolers Ogie Alcasid, Jose and Wally. And now, “Seduction” gives her the chance to shine in a lead dramatic role. What’s her secret?
“I don’t know, there’s no secret,” she says. “When I was nominated sa Urian, it’s supposed to be a big thing but I don’t even know what it is so I researched muna sa internet and found out from the critics pala yun. Hindi ko rin alam what they see in me. I just do what my directors tell me. No special technique or anything as I never studied acting naman.”

She’s what we call an instinctive actress. Did her Argentinian BF Nico Bolzico watch “Seduction”? “No, I didn’t even bring him to the premiere kasi ayaw rin niya. But I’m happy that he’s respectful of my career. Walang selos factor. Ayoko rin namang masama siya sa mundo ng showbiz. Ako na lang dito. Sabi rin naman niya, your work is your work and I don’t need to know about it. Basta supportive siya sa career ko.”

Her BF is an economic analyst who’s now into the agri-business. "Sobrang matalino siya. When we met, sanda-sandali lang siya sa Pilipinas. But because of me, he chose to stay here permanently. O, ang haba ng hair ko, di ba? I’ve met his family in Argentina when we had our vacation there. His family owns a farm. Sobrang bait nila but Spanish ang language nila so mahirap mag-communicate since French and English ang alam ko. Nico speaks English well since he studied in the States. Gustong-gusto siya ng parents ko. He’s the best so far sa mga naging boyfriend ko.”

So do we hear wedding bells soon? “Hindi pa. Baka in two years, mag-propose na siya at ready na rin ako. No need to rush naman.”
