Nora Aunor'S 'They Womb' Personally Endorsed By Sen. Loren Legarda

SEN. LOREN LEGARDA is personally endorsing Direk Dante Mendoza’s internationally acclaimed “Thy Womb” as a creative and fearless example of Filipino filmmaking. “The Senate earlier recognized the independent filmmaker Dante Mendoza through Senate Resolution 871 for winning both the La Navicella Venezia Cinema Award of the critics’ circle Journal of Cinema, and the P. Nazareno Taddei Award Special Mention Thy Womb won at the 69th Venice International Film Festival,” she says. “He was also awarded Best Director Award at the 2012 Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) in Brisbane, Australia, along with Nora Aunor as best actress. These awards attest to the immense talent of Filipino filmmakers. I highly recommend the film that explores the intricacies of rural life largely through the eyes of a Badjao midwife, revealing new facets of the plight of Filipino indigenous peoples. Mendoza tackles serious subjects that our society needs to pay attention to and this encourages other filmmakers to push the boundaries of art and storytelling for more meaningful films.”
