Ogie Alcasid Salutes Wife Regine Velasquez For Proceeding With Her Concert Even If She Lost Her Voice

OGIE ALCASID was in a good mood at the launch of his 25th anniversary album, “The Songwriter and the Hitmakers”, from Universal Records. He sang so many of his own hit songs interpreted in the album by various artists like Martin, Gary, Kuh, Sarah G, Jed, Christian, Rachelle Ann, Piolo, Kyla, Arnel P, and his own wife Regine Velasquez.

All in all, there are 18 unforgettable songs in the album that’s definitely a collector’s item. Our own favorites are “Pangako” by Martin, Rachelle Ann’s “Mula Ngayon”, Piolo’s “Kung Mawawala Ka”, Arnel P’s “Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw”, Jay R & Jaya’s “Nakaw na Sandali” (theme song of the new GMA-7 ‘Pahiram ng Sandali’), Ogie’s own rendition of “Ikaw ang Aking Pangarap” and his duet with his wife, “Tayong Dalawa”.

“This is my tribute to OPM, my way of saying that OPM is not dead, it’s very much alive and it’s here to stay,” he says. “The album will have its TV special version shown this Sunday on GMA-7’s SNBO at 10:30 PM with the guest singers in it.”

Ogie is very proud of Regine who decided to continue with her recent MOA presscon even if she lost her voice.

“Actually, I felt victorious for her when she stepped on stage,” he says. “The real ordeal was the night before and when she woke up. When she came home from the rehearsal, she said, ‘Hon, wala akong boses’. I said, ‘Let’s pray. Sold out na lahat ng tickets mo, e.’ The next morning, wala pa rin absolutely nothing. We went to her doctor and kita sa TV monitor, her vocal chords, so maga, it’s a mess. She got the virus from our soin Nate na siyang unang nagkasakit. Awang-awa ako sa kanya as she looked so helpless. She’d look me na, can you not do something about this. Umiyak kami pareho. The doctor said it’s up to you kung gusto nyo pa ituloy ang concert. We prayed together then she told me, tuloy na natin. I’m okay. Lumaban talaga siya and I’m so proud of her. Grabe yung journey na pinagdaanan niya but she emerged triumphant dahil nakita mo yung pagmamahal sa kanya ng fans niyang nanood sa MOA who we’re all supportive of her.”
