Aiza Seguerra As The Lovable Genie In 'Aladdin'

AIZA SEGUERRA is one celeb who can truly lay claim to the title of Multi-Media Star. She’s a singer who just had a successful concert at the Big Dome. She’s on TV in “Be Careful with My Heart”. She’s on the big screen in the Metro filmfest entry, “Si Enteng, Si Agimat at si Me”. She’s also on theatre playing the genie in Atlantis Productions’ “Aladdin”. This is her third musical after “Avenue Q” and “Rock of Ages”.

“Ayoko sana tanggapin ito kasi may soap ako, may movie, wala na kong tulog, umiiyak ako sa pagod,” she says. “But they told me they’ll get an alternate, si Calvin Millado, so I accepted it. Actually, fan ako ng ‘Aladdin’ nung bata pa ko at si Robin Williams ang genie noon. I get to sing his song, 'Friend of Mine'. Of course, hindi ko naman puede gayahin si Robin Williams.”

So how’s her interpretation different from Calvin’s genie? “Very different kasi ang laki niya. Mas mabilis akong kumilos sa kanya. He’d do 8 performances at ganun din ako. I hope you see both para makita nyo kaibhan.”

Tom Rodriguez plays Aladdin and they’re paired in “Be Careful with My Heart”. How’s it working with him on stage? “I’m happy for Tom kasi first niya mag-theatre at sobrang bagay sa kanya ang role. Bumilib ako sa kanya, very natural siya, binigyan niya ng buhay yung cartoon. Sobrang magkasundo kami kasi we both love comics and video games. We never thought magki-click sa viewers ang kakaiba naming love team sa ‘Be Careful’. May anak pa kami roon. Now that we’re both busy with the play, babawasan muna yung taping namin. Si Tom nga, wala muna, kunwari binulutong so he can focus on ‘Aladdin’.”

“Aladdin” starts showing at Meralco Theatre from November 16 to December 9. For tickets, call Atlantis at 892-7078 or visit them at atlantisproductionsinc.com.
