Writer-Director Aloy Adlawan Amazed By Dennis Trillo'S Unique Method In Acting

ALOY ADLAWAN is one of the supervising writers of GMA-7 soaps. He has directed three full length films: “Roomboy” (an entry in 2005 Cinemalaya), “Signos” and “Padyak”. Why is he still in the New Breed Category when he has already helmed three films? “Dito nila ko nilagay, na okay lang naman sa’kin.”

How come it took him so long before joining Cinemalaya again? “Ito kasing concept ng ‘Ang Katiwala’, bagay sa Cinemalaya, not for mainstream filmmaking. I got the idea from a news story about the Quezon City government running after a property na may historical value para gawing condo. Dennis plays the caretaker of the house that used to be owned by a former president. It’s a quiet film that’s actually more about territorial disputes. Bagay kay Dennis who’s in 95% of the scenes. Problem lang sa sked niya kasi he’s also then doing ‘Boy Pickup’ and ‘Biritera’ then, but you’d really be amazed by him. Saludo ako sa husay niya kasi may sarili siyang method sa role niya na different from TV acting or from his ‘Boy Pickup’ role na over the top.”

“Ang Katiwala” will be shown at the CCP, Greenbelt 3 & 5, and Trinoma from July 20 to 29, with gala premiere on July 25, 6:15 at the CCP.
