Sun Life-Sun Shorts Presents Six Short Films From Topnotch Local Directors

DIRECTOR JIM LIBIRAN (whose “Tribu” and “Xerex” are great favorites of ours) greeted us at the Sun Life-Sun Shorts presscon and we didn’t recognize him as he’s so big now, having gained so much weight. We asked him what happened to film about football, “Happyland”, and he said it will make the round of various schools. For Sun Shorts, he did “Araw”, based on a true story of a man who harnesses the power of the sun to create beautiful art , thereby reconnecting with his roots.

Sun Shorts is Sun Life Philippines’ regional short film project called Experience the Sun brings to life the power and beauty of the Sun through the eyes of top directors. It features Filipino filmmakers sharing their interpretations of how life is brighter under the Sun, to be shown free online starting July 25, 2012 at http://www.experiencethesun.com.ph/. Sun Life Financial Philippines Chief Marketing Officer Mylene Lopa says: “Relationships are at the heart of Sun Shorts, with the sun as a symbolic light source bringing hope and a promise of a brighter tomorrow to the characters in the films.”

The films run for 7 minutes each. “1945” is by Unitel’s veteran producer-storyteller Jun Reyes about love amidst the darkness of war starring Angel Aquino. “Life in a Day” by commercial director Jolly Feliciano is about a sick young boy whose hope burns brightly as the sun. “Oh My Goth” by Chris Martinez (“Here Comes the Bride”, “100”) is a horror-comedy with Ketchup Eusebio and Lilia Cuntapay. “The Debt” by Nick Reyes is an action-oriented story about a young man in a dangerous situation. “Sun Dance” by Jerrold Tarog (“Aswang”, “Confessional”) is about friendship that empowers three young women to go through life’s hardships with grace and elegance. Sun Shorts has a radio promo where listeners are welcome to share their sunny stories thru Twitter (@sunlifeph) and Facebook (sunlifeph). And another promo awaits everyone who watches the films online in “ Sun Shorts Fly to America!” promo.
