2012 Cinemalaya Starts With A Tribute To Late Director Mario O'Hara

THE 2012 CINEMALAYA season officially starts tonight at the CCP with a special screening of “Babae sa Breakwater” as opening film. This is a homage to its late director, Mario O’Hara. This is part of their tribute to the late filmmaker, which is a retrospective of his movies where he worked either as writer, actor or director. Here are the schedules of screening.

“Babae sa Breakwater” – As writer-director, this film won awards abroad and stars Katherine Luna, Kristoffer King and Gardo Versoza.– shown July 20, 6:15PM

“Tinimbang Ka Ngunit Kulang” – As an actor, he played the leper who’s an outcast in their town. This landmark 1974 film was shown for several months at Roxan Theatre on Rizal Avenue. It stars Christopher de Leon in his very first movie, which won him the FAMAS best actor award. Directed by Lino Brocka – Shown on July 21, 12:45 noon.

“The Fatima Buen Story” – As writer-director, this film stars Kris Aquino in the title role, supported by John Regala who won several best supporting actor awards. Showing on July 21, 6:15PM.

“Tubog sa Ginto” – As actor, he plays the wily hustler lover of the closeted Eddie Garcia. Directed by Lino Brocka, it also stars Lolita Rodriguez and Jay Ilagan. Shown on July 22, 9:00PM

“Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos” – As writer-director, this 1976 war-drama won best actress awards for Nora Aunor, also stars Christopher de Leon and Bembol Roco. Shown on July 23: 3:30PM

“Insiang” – As writer, directed by Lino Brocka. This film was shown in the Cannes Filmfest. It won various awards for Hilda Koronel in the title role, Mona Lisa as her randy mom and Ruel Vernal as her mom’s lover who rapes her. Shown on July 27, 10 AM.
