Sharon Cuneta Opens Up About Her Tiff With Aunt Helen Gamboa

SHARON CUNETA says at the presscon of her new show “Sharon, Kasama Mo, Kapatid” that she’s starting a new chapter in her life and career in her new home, TV5.

“After more than 30 years doing movies, TV shows and concerts, and recording songs, I’m starting something that will be my legacy, something na mas makabuluhan, my way of giving back to the people who’ve been supporting me all these years. I moved to TV5 in November and people have been asking: Bakit ang tagal ng show mo? Walang nangyayari. Kaya nga nagtagal, kasi ang daming nangyayari. My TV5 bosses like Bobby Barreiro and Percy Intalan don’t want something na hindi grand, from the concept to the set. Sa dami ng talk shows ngayon, we want it to be special, different. Grabe nga ang ipinakitang faith and belief in me ng TV5 kasi ayaw nilang basta masabi lang na may show na ko. Pinaghandaan muna nila ng husto. We’re featuring the lives not only of celebrities but also ordinary people with extraordinary lives.”

The presscon was hosted by Arnell Ignacio who said Sharon is one of the most generous stars he has known. “When she found out I was running sa last election, hindi naman ako humihingi, bigla na lang akong inabutan ng check na P30,000 to help me,” he shares.

Sharon opened the presscon with the show’s theme song, “Kung Maputi Na ang Buhok Ko”. She’s so hands on with the show and put up her own company, Mega Productions Inc., to help co-produce it. It will definitely start on May 7, a daily show, but they won’t announce yet its exact time slot. “Para hindi kami tapatan,” she says.

So far, they’ve already taped 15 episodes and among their guests are newlyweds Shalani and Roman Romulo, Derek Ramsay, Katrina Halili, Dr. Vicki Belo, Iwa Moto, Pilita Corrales, Annabelle Rama, Janelle Manahan, Lolit Solis, Cristy Fermin, Amy Perez, and many more.

It’s common knowledge she’s at odds with Helen Gamboa. Has she tried reaching out to her aunt? “Oh yes, I did. I text kay Ciara, ayokong mag-text directly sa kanya kasi takot ako, e. I said ginawa niya kong saranggola dahil sabi niya, matayog ang lipad ko. Kelan naman ako naging matayog? I also text kay Richard Gomez pag may taping sila, sabi ko, pabasa mo ito kay Margaret (Helen’s name in ‘Walang Hanggan’), pero so far, hindi pa sumasagot. May tampo pa. Pero sa’kin, wala na yun. Mahal na mahal ko siya. I’m not disrespecting her. Nasali lang kami sa gulo ng politics as I sided with my husband who’s with the administration while she sided with hers who’s with FPJ then. E, siempre, asawa ko naman yun, ama ng mga anak ko. Maski naman sa Biblia, it’s said na you should side with your husband. Hindi ako nagmamalaki sa kanya, dahil kasama siya sa mga nagpalaki sa akin. Nagulat lang talaga ako kasi they taught me not to wash our dirty linen in public, tapos bigla siyang nagsalita kay Ricky Lo. But I’m very confident na maaayos din ito. Kahit anupang sabihin, magkadugo kami.”

How about her reunion movie with Gabby? Is it true it was shelved because of her? “Gabby and I are both with Viva and sila ni Boss Vic ang nag-uusap. The issue is between them. Wala naman akong kinalaman dun sa negotiation part, so it’s not true na ayaw na ni Gabby na maging leading man ko. But I heard kasi his wife Ginbee is giving birth to their second baby in the States and he wants to be there when she delivers. I’m sure matutuloy pa rin ang movie namin, pero magpapapayat muna ako.”
