Viva's New Talent Anja Aguilar Says She's Not A Clone Of Sarah Geronimo

VIVA RECORDS is giving a solo break to Anja (pronounced Anya) Aguilar, former member of the girl group Popgirls. Anja used to be known as Angeline Urquico, winner of ABS-CBN’s “Little Big Star- Season 2” in 2006, which came after the batch of Sam Concepcion and Charice Pempengco.

Born on July 22, 1992, she’s the eldest of five kids and is now graduating from her masscomm course at AMA. After she won, ABS didn’t sign her up to a contract as she was managed by Boy Abunda’s Backroom. She then joined Viva’s Popgirls and is now so glad that they’re launching her as a solo artist in her self-titled debut album.  View Anja Aguilar's Photos.

Some folks say she’s imitating Sarah Geronimo. “She’s my idol as she’s a total performer. She was the host of ‘Little Big Star’ when I won at nagkasama rin kami sa ‘ASAP’. It’s nice to be compared with her, but I’m not consciously imitating her,” she says.

She has also tried acting. She played Piolo Pascual’s much younger love interest in a past episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya” and, last Saturday, she played Kim Chiu’s younger sister also in MMK. At her album launch, she belted a mean version of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” and was well applauded by the press. Her first single, “To Reach You”, a love song by Vehnee Saturno, is a potential hit. The other original compositions in her album are “Nasaan ang Pangako”, “When”, “Di Bale Na Lang”, “Ako Para Sa’Yo”, “Magic of Love”, and “Ako”. The only remake is Willie Revillame’s “I Love You” that she previously recorded as the theme song of TV5’s “PS I Love You”.
