Jerrold created a new monster in “Aswang”, the taong bayawak or abwak, reminiscent of creatures of the undead from “Resident Evil” or “30 Days of Night”. Lovi plays Jasmine, a mysterious girl who is herself an abwak. She has accepted her fate but refuses to lead the life of the flesh-eating monster that preys on human beings. Jasmine meets a human, Daniel (Paulo Avelino), whom she sees as her hope to escape from the world of the abwaks. They fall in love. But the leaders of the tribe of the abwaks, Joem Bascon and Bembol Roco, just won’t allow it, leading to some thrilling complications and a deadly face off between abwaks and humans.
Now on its successful second week, “Aswang” also stars Jillian Ward and Albie Casino as survivors of a massacre that killed their parents. They are chased by assassins led by Marc Abaya, accidentally leading them to the remote town of Jasmine and the abwaks. Precious Lara Quigaman, Noni Buencamino, and Nina Jose complete the cast.
