WHAT CAN Rachelle Ann Go say to the comment of veteran singer Dulce that young singers today have the same style of singing, which is the “birit” style? “Siguro tama siya but what can we do when it’s what most people want?” she says. “Sa atin kasi, mas mataas kang bumirit, mas magaling ka. Even the recording companies, yun ang binibigay na songs sa’min kasi yun ang bumebenta. If you wouldn’t do that, no one will buy your albums or watch your show. That’s why one has to make an effort to show na kaya mo rin ng ibang singing styles, but you can’t just impose on your listeners.”
Her new album, “Unbreakable”, fits her perfectly after the intrigues she’s been trhough lately, what with John Prats dumping her for Bianca Manalo then her being linked to Cesar Montano. “About John, it’s true siyang nakipag-break sa’kin after lumabas ang mga balitang break na nga kami. Pero hindi ako ang nagsabing si Bianca ang third party sa amin. Labas na ko roon. As for Mr. Montano, nakakahiya kasi naging gentleman lang siya noong mag-show kami for GMA Pinoy TV sa Canada, tapos kami na raw. I’m not really worried as people know me, hindi ako homewrecker na pumapatol sa may asawa. Ngayon nga, mas worried akong akusahang ginagamit ko ang issues na ito to promote my album. So I want to make it clear na kayong nagtatanong at sinasagot ko lang kayo, ha.”
What did she do as she underwent such sad experiences? “I just prayed. Talagang si Lord ang naging karamay ko and with Him beside me, hindi ako matagal nade-depress kahit anong problema. Hindi rin ako nagtatanim ng sama ng loob and I’m able to move on right away.”
Her new album has 14 songs, including her version of “Part of Your World” that she’ll sing in the first local staging of Disney’s “Little Mermaid” starting November 18. A combination of originals and revivals, it also has her own compositions “Whoa, Man” and “Whispered Fear. Other good cuts are Vehnee Saturno’s potential hit, “Masasabi Mo Ba”, “You Kissed Away My Tears”, “Kailan Pa”, “Kung Alam Mo Lang” and “Lihim”.
