JM de Guzman on Charee Pineda: 'Maganda daw ang chemistry namin'

JM DE GUZMAN is turning 23 on September 9 and the positive developments in his career right now are fitting birthday gifts for him. His performance as the young producer in the hit Cinemalaya film “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank” is getting positive feedback, also his acting in the recent soap, “Mula sa Puso”. Now, he has also released his self-titled debut album under Ivory Music. JM started his career as a child model for print and TV ads. He then became a part of “Ang TV2” with Sarah Geronimo and Shaina Magdayao. He took up performance arts in UP and is a member of the prestigious theatre group Dulaang UP. He was the president of the UP Wrestling Club and won in various athletic competitions, including the silver medal in the Philippine Olympic Competition in 2007. As a mixed martial artist, he won in the 2009 SPRAWL and BRAWL amateur mixed martial arts event. That same year, he did the award-winning “Last Supper No. 3” for Cinemalaya and was cast by Direk Lauren Dyogi as the friend of Rafael Rosell in “Midnight Phantom”. He later did two more indie films: “Pendong” and “Rekrut”. He also did mainstream films like “Miss You Like Crazy” and “Amnesia Girl”, both with John Lloyd Cruz. In his 12-tracked album, JM has two original songs he himself wrote, “Carried Away” (the first single that has a star-studded music video) and “Give You the World”. The other cuts include cover versions of “Pagdating ng Panahon, “Bizarre Love Triangle”, “Yakap sa Dilim”, “Collide”, “Kiss Me” and many more.

How would he explain the popularity of his love team with Charee Pineda? “Di ko rin alam,” he says. “It started with ‘Midnight Phantom’, then ‘Alynna’, before ‘Mula sa Puso’. They say okay raw ang chemistry naming dalawa.” Will he give Charee a copy of his album? “Of course, I want her to be ‘Carried Away’ by my songs.” Watch JM’s 5pm mall tours at SM Dasmarinas on Saturday, August 13, SM Clark on August 28, SM Sta. Rosa on September 4, and SM Bacoor on September 10.
