RUFFA GUTIERREZ doesn’t want to talk anymore about ex-hubby Yilmaz Bektas at the presscon for her charity bazaar, but writers interviewing her are persistent about it. Is it true Yilmaz is offering her $2 million if she’d allow their daughter Lorin and Venice to stay with him in Istanbul? “Yes, my daughters are priceless,” she says. “Wala silang kapalit na anumang amount of money.”
“If it were me,” says Lolit Solis, “I’ll accept it. $2 million is $2 million. Gumawa ka na lang ng bago.” Ruffa kept laughing at Lolit’s joke. What would she like to tell Yilmaz? “To just follow what the court says. Full custody was given to me. He can visit them naman here or, if he doesn’t like that, we can meet in the States, para neutral ground.”
Maybe he just wants to reconcile with her? “Matagal na niyang sinasabi yan, but puro sa phone lang, sa text lang, no real effort on his part na ayusin ang relationship namin. If he’s serious about it, dapat nun pa niya ginawa. Now, it’s too late. I’m already happy being single. Life is beautiful. I’m busy on TV5 with ‘Paparazzi’ and ‘Talentadong Pinoy’, then I’ll have a new soap by October. I’m doing two new movies with Regal, ‘Hototay’ for the filmfest and ‘Wanted: Perfect Stepmom’ with Gabby Concepcion and Pokwang.”
Does she get regularly support from Yilmaz? “None. Since we got back here four years ago, I’m sole provider for our kids. There was a time I’m asking him to at least pay for their schooling as his contribution but he didn’t send anything. If he really wants to be with our kids, ang dami naming separated couples na yung mga anak can spend summer sa’yo and pag may school, sa’kin. We can always come up with an arrangement. But in four years namin dito, lahat ng promises niya sa mga bata na pupunta siya rito, dadalawin sila, walang natupad kaya yung mga bata, umiiyak, siempre, name-miss siya.”
But what about her rumored new BF Eduardo Puertas? “Naku, huwag na nating idamay rito ang isang private person. Kawawa naman siya. Let’s not talk about him. Let’s just talk about my project for charity. For my birthday last month, I spent it at the Baseco Compound in Port Area with my daughters, Royale Artists Management talents like Ehra Madrigal, James Blanco and Bubbles Paraiso, beauty queen Reham Snow Tago, talent manager Shirley Kwan, Simon Greatwich and James Rochlitz of the Azkals. For the past four years, my brothers Richard, Raymond and I have been supporting 80 World Vision Baseco kids there. We brought school supplies, food from McDonald’s, Purefoods hotdogs, Magnolia and San Miguel fruit jucies, Mentos and Chupa Chups candies. I was so inspired by the positive reception that I’m now putting up a bazaar at Newport Resorts World on August 19 and 20, with 25 celebrity friends participating. Our booths are at P10,000 each per day and they can sell all the goods that they don’t use anymore from clothes and bags to shoes and other items. I myself will be selling lots of stuff kasi babalik na kami to our renovated house in White Plains. That’s the original house my dad bought after we returned here from the U.S. in 1986 so may sentimental value yun sa kanya. Also, nasa baba kasi ang master’s bedroom noon, unlike our house in Dasmarinas Village na nasa second floor kaya umaakyat pa siya.”
So what happens to their house in Dasma? “Kina Richard and Mommy yun, e. I want to buy it sana kasi sanay na ko sa Makati area, but then, ang mahal.”
“Get the $2 million from Yilmaz,” says Lolit. “Di may pambayad ka na roon.”
