Director Quark Henares finally completes Magnus Opus Rakenrol

QUARK HENARES is one of our promising young directors whose debut flick, “Gamitan” in 2002 starring Maui Taylor, we really enjoyed. We didn’t like his “Keka” (2003), but we also enjoyed his “Wag Kang Lilingon, Uyayi episode” and “Super Noypi” (both in 2006). Now, we’re glad that he has finally completed his latest work, “Rakenrol”, a labor of love he himself wrote and produced which he has been working on for five years now. Every time we’d see him (last time was when he directed the TV commercial that Claudine Barretto shot for his mom, Dr. Vicki Belo), we’d ask him about ‘Rakenrol’ and he’d say, “Matatapos na”. Now, it’s actually finished and has already participated in two international film festivals: the Udine Filmfest in Italy on May 2 and the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFF) on May 4. “Rakenrol” follows two friends who form their own band and their misadventures in the Philippine underground rock music scene. It stars Glaiza de Castro, Alwyn Uytingco, and Diether Ocampo.
