New Singer Mark Alain grew up in Basilan

SONY MUSIC launches the debut album of a new recording star, Mark Alain, whose songs are now well played on radio, “Maghihintay” and “Sa Piling Mo”. Mark is 25 years old and has matinee idol good looks so we’re sure he’ll make a lot of women swoon while he sings. Born in Cagayan de Oro but raised in the Abu Sayyaf infested town of Lamitan, Basilan, his dad is a logger (“Legal”, he stresses) and he and his twin brother (Mark Rollin) grew up with guards as kidnapping was rampant in their place. Their family name is Echem. He was sent to Zamboanga for high school so he speaks mostly Visayan and Chavacano. He then lived for a while in New York but returned to Manila to take up nursing. He’s graduating next year. He also became the vocalist of a band, Frio. “But they’re into alternative music and I’m more into ballads so I said goodbye to them,” he says. “But we get along fine. The keyboardist and the bassist wrote the songs in my album. I made a demo CD, sent it to Sony, then they called me to record a CD lite for them.”

The other three songs in his album aside from “Maghihintay” and “Sa Piling Mo” are “Loving You”, “Isang Araw” and “Ika’y Mapapasaakin”. Currently single after just coming out of a relationship, is he willing to try acting? “I’d love to and I’ll welcome any offers.”
