Dawn Zulueta no longer on the same level as Gretchen Barreto

WE LOVE DAWN Zulueta’s understated performance as the balikbayan mother looking for her long lost daughter in “Sigwa”, where she plays the lone lead role, and we wish she’d win as best actress in other award-giving bodies. We also enjoyed her portrayal of the liberated theatre actress in the musical “A Little Night Music”. But efforts to match her with Gretchen Barretto these days would prove futile as they no longer belong on the same level. Gretchen has managed to maintain her leading lady status. She’s still at par with younger ABS-CBN actresses like Bea Alonzo , Erich Gonzales and Angelica Panganiban doing lead roles in the soaps that they do. Sadly for Dawn, she has allowed herself to be relegated in playing supporting roles. She’s Gerald Anderson’s mother in the movie “Catch Me, I’m in Love”, where her role is so undemanding and is more decorative than anything else, and now, she also plays mom to Lauren Young in “Mula sa Puso.” But when it comes to who’s the better actress between Dawn and Gretchen, this is a question that no longer needs to be asked. About their personal lives, though, Dawn can claim she's really happily married to Cong. Anton Lagdameo and being mom to their two legitimate sons.
