Moymoy Palaboy duo amenable to having solo careers

AS TALENTS of GMA Artist Center, the Obeso brothers of the singing comic duo of Moymoy Palaboy are seen regularly in “Bubble Gang”. The eldest one is James, born July 17, 1983, while the younger one is Rodfil, born August 28, 1985. “Our dad left us when James was 2 and I was still a baby,” says Rodfil. “We never saw him again. We just learned he died four years ago. His surname is Macasero. Obeso is from our mom, who passed away on my birthday due to cancer in 2006, so we’re now orphans.”

James was with a band, Pasionista, while Rod was working with PLDT when they started doing their lip-synched music videos that hit it big in Youtube that has registered 111 million hits as of February 2011. Their “Lumayo Ka Man sa Laklak” single from their BMG debut album won the 2010 Aliw Best Novelty Act award. They also won the Guillermo Mendoza Foundation most popular novelty singers award. Their music videos of “Marimar” and “Volare” have made them popular in Mexico. “Yung ‘Marimar’ got 16 million hits,” says Rodfil, who’s still single while James is married to a girl named Diana and has a 5-month old daughter, J-Dah. “May Mexican TV show raw na ginagaya kami roon, pati na yung MTV naming ng ‘Everybody’ with Mark Herras.”

They’ve done a soap, “All My Life”, and a movie, “Fr. Jejemon”. “We’re glad to be part of ‘Bubble Gang’. What’s nice is that they now give us acting parts, dati kumakanta lang kami,” says James.

They wish they’d be given more acting jobs. “Okay lang kahit solo-solo kami,” says Rodfil. “Hindi naman puede lagi kaming magkasama. Nakuha rin kaming endorsers ng Coke.”
