TV5 happy with the high rating of Babaeng Hampaslupa

WE SAW the pilot telecast of “Babaeng Hampaslupa” upon the request of its writer, Dinno Erece, who’s a good friend. Dinno has the right to feel proud about it (it rated a high 9.8%) as TV5 really spent a lot to make sure their first dramaserye, which is about two warring Chinese families, will impress viewers. It has very big scenes (like the funeral for Marita Zobel, the mom of Jay Manalo in the show) and good locations (like the Chinese mansion where Freddie Webb lives). Susan Roces has yet to appear in the show but you can already feel her dominant presence as the narrator. The first two days focused on developing the love story of Jay and Alice Dixson as Diane, the poor girl oppressed by Jay’s rich Chinese family and how she nearly loses her mind after she thought her baby (who grows up to be Alex Gonzaga and appears for the first time tonight) has died. Susan appeared on the third episode as Helena, the imperious matriarch of the See family who returns from abriad and helps Alice to take revenge on her tormentors. She engineers the death of Alice as Diane and her subsequent return as the beautiful Anastacia. Susan herself has an intriguing back story on why she hates the guts of the Wong Family and you should watch out for this.
