The new Maria Cafra on I Witness

HAVE YOU EVER wondered what happened to the Maria Cafra, one of the prolific bands and frontrunners of Pinoy Rock in the 70s who made hits like “Kumusta Kaibigan”, “Exodus” and “Buhay Gapo”? Its members were Resty Fabunan (composer and lead guitarist), Rolly Averilla and Jun Fabunan. Since they flourished during martial law when sporting long hair is forbidden, they had to hide from the authorities when hopping from gig to gig. They disbanded suddenly and moved on with their lives. Now, after three decades, a new Maria Cafra is back on the scene. Jun has died and his son Dennis takes his place as bassist. Meet him and the other new members in “I Witness” tonight after “Saksi” on GMA-7. Will this new generation of musicians using advanced technology shine as bright as the former Maria Cafra? Listen to their music and find out.
