Dingdong Dantes and Regine Velasquez fight like cat and dog

DINGDONG DANTES just smiles each time writers ask him as to when will wedding bells ring for him and Marian Rivera? “I really don’t know kung bakit kami minamadali when we’re okay as we are now,” he says. “Darating din naman kami diyan. I guess ganun siguro talaga ang kalakaran sa showbiz. Pag umamin na kayo, ipe-pressure naman kayong pakasal na.”

He’s happy to do comedy in “I Heart You Pare”. “So far, maganda feedback kahit ibang-iba ito sa past shows ko na puro drama. Even my role as a club manager working with gays, malayong-malayo sa any role I’ve done before. Parang aso’t pusa kami rito ni Regine as Tonette na laging nag-aaway kahit roommates kami.”

Their director, Andoy Ranay (who’s now megging it solo after GMA management let go of co-director Joyce Bernal who’s also directing TV5’s “Babaeng Hampaslupa”), says he was so surprised to see Dingdong also effective in comedy. “I directed him sa ‘Stairway to Heaven’, for which he won the Star best drama actor award, at okay siya. ‘I Heart U Pare’ shows he has good range as an actor at kaya rin niya magpatawa.”

“I’m only good kasi magaling siyang director and also dahil puro magagaling ang kaeksena ko,” says Dong. “Lalo na si Regine Velasquez. She has fully internalized her role as a bakla at madadala ka talaga sa husay niya, pati sa musical numbers niya as Tonette.”
