2010 Yearender Part 6 - Who's in Who's Out in 2011

So who are the stars that are in by 2011? There’s a premium on youth so, at the Kapuso camp, the Tween Stars of Joshua Dionisio, Barbie Forteza, Bea Binene, Jake Vargas, Louise de los Reyes, and others, definitely have a bright future in store for them with the huge success of their Sunday show, “Tween Hearts”, that’s extended until April. Louise is also being built up solo in the telefantasya, “Alakdana”. Aljur Abrenica as the hunk du jour will surely get a big boost from his title roler, “Machete”.

Tot star Jillian Ward is also flying high, with her playing Richard Gutierrez’ sidekick in “Captain Barbell”. GMA-7 is also all set to give a big build up to Frencheska Farr whose debut album has just been launched, ditto for Elmo Magalona who’s fast gaining more fans. One newcomer who’s surely making her presence felt is Solenn Heussaff, who has signed up a film contract with Regal Entertainment,  a TV deal with GMA-7, and a recording contract with MCA.

At the Kapamilya camp, they can place their bets on their teen “Mara Clara” stars who now have their own following: Kathryn Bernardo, Julia Montes, Albie Casino and John Manalo. Let’s see if they’ll be successful in launching Jessy Mendiola in “Sabel” the way they were successful with Erich Gonzales in “Katorse” and Andi Eigenmann in “Agua Bendita”. They definitely found a gold mine in Jovit Baldivino whose records are now bonafide best sellers. The most in Kapamilya actor is surely John Lloyd Cruz, with two films to his credit in 2010, “Miss You Like Crazy” and “Amnesia Girl”, and one hit TV series, “Imortal”.

At the Kapatid network, they’re launching Alex Gonzaga in the soap “Babaeng Hampaslupa” supported by big name stars. Also being built up is Jasmine Curtis (younger sister of Anne) who’s being launched in “Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum” with JC De Vera. TV5 is also determined to boost the career of their Star Factor winner, Eula Caballero. They might also have their own teen stars with them remaking “Bagets”.

Twitter is definitely in. Most of the big stories of this year started with the tweets of stars in their respective accounts, including Kris Aquino’s admission that she has broken up with James Yap, Annabelle Rama’s harangue on Heart Evangelista for dropping her as manager, the stars belonging to Ampalaya Anonymous waging a twitter war, and the twits of Cristine Reyes against Sarah Geronimo involving Rayver Cruz.

With the success of “Agimat at Enteng Kabisote” starring Vic Sotto and Bong Revilla, the combination of two big stars working together for the first time will be in. Next to follow is Robin Padilla and Cesar Montano. Who knows? Star Cinema might finally find the right script for Vilma Santos and Sharon Cuneta.

And who’s out? Definitely, Mommy Dionisia Pacquiao. Even her fainting spell in her son’s last fight failed to revive the public’s interest in her. Mark Herras has neglected his career and antagonized even his own manager, so he’ll pay for that. Melai Cantiveros and Jason Francisco of PBB seem to have very limited talent and are mere flashes in the pan. The Kim Chiu-Gerald Anderson love team is certainly out. Let’s see if they’ll be successful having solo careers.

The two-sided network war is out as it’s apparently a three-sided war now with the very strong and aggressive presence of TV5 who offers top salaries to stars and technical people.

And that’s 2010 for you. Let’s all hope and pray that 2011 will be a better and brighter year for all of us.

We wish you all a happy and peaceful new year!
