2010 Yearender Part 4b - Controversies

NORA Aunor had some procedures done on her face at Shinagawa Clinic in Japan. She was even personally fetched by Aster Amoyo from the U.S. It ended on a sour note with Nora threatening to sue them because she reportedly lost her singing voice when her throat was opened up during the operation. She was rumoured to be coming home a number of times but the year ends with her a no show. There’s a rumor she’s now a caregiver in the U.S. but this is unconfirmed.

Ruffa Gutierrez walked out of “The Buzz”, fed up with co-host Kris Aquino’s constant butting in when she’s talking. She moved to TV5 and is now hosting “Paparazzi”. She was replaced by KC Concepcion. Later on, Kris also resigned from “The Buzz” after her marriage crumbled and was replaced by Toni Gonzaga and Charlene Gonzales. Bianca Gonzales replaced Kris in “SNN”.

Annabelle Rama denounced Heart Evangelista for just using her to get into GMA and help revive her ailing career. This after Heart’s mom said they will no longer renew their contract with Annabelle when it expires in 2011 so they don’t have to pay her a commission anymore. Annabelle expanded her talent agency and called it Royale Artists Management with now no less than 30 stars in her stable.

Annabelle also got into conflict with Angeli Pangilinan who made some remarks about Ruffa Gutierrez that didn’t sit well with Annabelle who then confronted Angeli about it at the birthday party of Ogie Alcasid.

Both Sharon Cuneta and daughter KC Concepcion got involved in controversies. When Sharon pretended not to know who Aga Muhlach is at the Araneta concert of Ai Ai de las Alas, some quarters pilloried her for being ill mannered. Sharon said she just had a small “tampo” with Aga but it was blown out of proportions. KC’s manager, Shirley Kuan, decided to resign from handling her and this triggered all sorts of speculations that, at one point, even involved KC’s alleged boyfriend, Piolo Pascual.

Marian Rivera had a much talk about incident with newcomer Bela Padilla (who was known at ABS as Krista Valle and Krista Sullivan before she moved to GMA co-managed by Claire de la Fuente). She reportedly got jealous of Bela and locked her up in a bathroom to confront her. Bela’s camp threatened to file a case against her. GMA intervened to settle the case amicably.

Gretchen Barretto had a tiff with Angelica Panganiban over Derek Ramsay. As soon as this was patched up, it was the turn of Claudine Barretto to get into a big conflict with Angelica. She threatened to sue Angelica for allegedly spreading rumors about her but before she can even file case, Star Magic jumped the gun on her and issued a letter to her about her statements against Angelica. This obviously calmed her down. Now, it’s the Barretto sisters, Gretchen and Claudine, who are once again at odds with each other.

Mariel Rodriguez might have found a husband this year but she did make a lot of enemies denouncing her for badmouthing them, including Toni Gonzaga, KC Concepcion and Luis Manzano.

Cong. Ronald Singson, who co-owns Channel V and produces concerts with Jomari Yllana, was arrested in Hongkong in August due to drug charges. He’s still detained there but loyal GF Lovi Poe visits him every now and then.

KC Concepcion’s manager, Shirley Kuan, decided to resign from managing her and there were various speculations about the reason she did so. Piolo Pascual, KC’s allegedly boyfriend, was even dragged into the picture but Shirley said Piolo has nothing to do with it. KC is now managed by Star Magic. KC made a movie with her dad Gabby Concepcion for the first time, “I’ll Be There”, with Jericho Rosales as leading man, and Star Cinema is wondering up to now why it bombed at the box office.

Janno Gibbs absented himself from “Party Pilipinas”.  Janno reportedly just stayed inside his room for two months due to depression as wife Bing and their two daughters are leaving him. He denied this and said he just rested and tried to lose weight, adding that he and his family are okay.

The cases filed against Richard Gutierrez (reckless imprudence filed by the wife of his production assistant who perished in a car accident in Tagaytay) and Aljur Abrenica (acts of lasciviousness filed by a fan in Puerto Galera, Mindoro) were both junked by the Department of Justice. Hubert Webb and his five co-accused in the celebrated Vizconde Massacre (filmed twice by Carlo Paras in the early 90s) were freed by the Supreme Court after 15 years in Muntinlupa. The case file by Katrina Halili against Hayden Kho for videotaping their lovemaking was dumped by the courts.
