IZA CALZADO is surprised that when people see her now in public, they call her Maita, her name in the hit soap “
Beauty Queen”, proof that lots of viewers really follow it. “Noong matagal akong walang soap, some folks, nainip for me but I’m glad I patiently waited for the right project and now, I can say ‘Beauty Queen’ is really worth the wait,” she says. “Buti nga natagalan as it gave me time to prepare for it physically and emotionally. When they asked me to don a skimpy swimsuit, ready na ako dahil sa exercises that I do. I always have faith naman that everything happens for a reason and ‘Beauty Queen’ is a perfect reason for me lalo ngayong it’s rating well on primetime. I never thought I’d play a beauty queen role and I’m thankful to all the great actors I work with like Bembol Roco, Beth Oropesa, Gloria Diaz, and the rest.”
As Maita in “Beauty Queen”, Iza will be fighting with her good friend Rebecca (Maggie Wilson) over the title “Lakambini ng Kalikasan” where one of the judges, Donald (Marvin Agustin), falls for her charms and fetches her with a luxurious limousine. Iza’s role in “Beauty Queen” is really an acting vehicle, but she’s good not just in acting. Those who watch “Party Pilipinas” know she also dances well and it’s not surprising as choreographer Lito Calzado is her dad. She’s also an excellent host and is a regular in Q Channel 11’s “Sweet Life” and “Healthy Cravings”. She also did well when she hosted the Bb. Pilipinas finals.
