WHAT CAN Eddie Gutierrez say about the conflict between Pilita Corrales and ex-daughter in law Lotlot de Leon? “Hindi ako nakikialam diyan,” he says. “I’ll only do so if it’s a matter of life and death. Since I had angioplasty, I avoid being stressed. Pati diet ko, binago, fish and chicken na lang ngayon. I believe maaayos naman yan kasi ang anak kong si Monching, napakabait, lalo na sa mga anak nila.”
He must be very proud of his son Richard who’s now doing well as an actor and as host of “Survivor Philippines”. “I’m proud of all my children, pati sina Monching at Tonton, and my only daughter, Ruffa, who’s doing great as a host on TV5. Maganda sa mga anak kong lalaki, walang nagmana sa’kin na noong araw, pinagsasabay-sabay ang girlfriends.”
In TV 5’s “My Driver Sweet Lover”, he plays Lolo George, a bachelor jeepney driver who adopts streetkids, including JC de Vera, Mura, Afro and BJ Forbes. Two ladies are rivals over his attention: the very rich Pilita Corrales as Abuela Maxi and the alajera Nova Villa as Virgie. This is his first regular show after his angioplasty. “I was offered to do ‘Kristine Series’ sa ABS but the role is physically exhausting at maraming emotional and action scenes so ayoko. It went to Lito Legaspi. Mas gusto ko na ito, very light, palagi kaming masaya sa set.”
