James Yap gains sympathy

LOOKS LIKE James Yap has gained a lot of sympathizers who think it’s selfish of Kris Aquino to try getting sole custody of Baby James to prevent him from visiting their son and to change the boy’s surname. The reaction on the internet is so negative for Kris and even the letters we receive are all for James. In “Showbiz Central” last Sunday, they had a short interview with James during the hearing in Makati with Kris and one thing is immediately obvious: James does not have a positive TV persona simply because he’s not even half as glib or articulate as his very loquacious wife. This is understandable since he’s really more of an athlete and this is also probably the reason why he let his lawyer instead, Atty. Lorna Kapunan, to be interviewed live by Pia Guanio in the show, even if Atty. Kapunan is also not exactly TV friendly since she’s perceived by the public as the defender of Hayden Kho, the guy who tapes his sex bouts with his partners without their permission.

Kapunan said James was very much surprised when Kris filed for nullity of their marriage since they still live together, even if they have separate bedrooms. To make matters worse, the petition was served to James on the day that he was given the most valuable player award. “Maraming sinasaad yung complaint na nagulat si James dahil hindi niya alam na ganun pala ang feelings ni Kris sa kanya,” the lawyer said. Pia asked if the female minister who married James and Kris was really unauthorized. “In the five years of their marriage, they never questioned the authority of Minister Tumaliwan. Pareho silang in good faith noon. Kung walang authority yung minister, bakit dalawang beses nila ginamit kasi they were married twice? Noong first kasi, walang parental advice si James and he’s only 23, kaya inulit with the same minister. They said yun daw sect ng minister na yun, nakansela na, but the minister has a registered license to marry at nagkakasal pa siya hanggang ngayon.”

About the petition to change Baby James’ surname from Yap to Cojuangco Aquino, Kapunan said: “Kris was ill advised by her lawyers. Kasi gusto nila palabasing illegitimate si Baby James. But they forgot the Revilla Law of Sen. Revilla Sr. It says na maski illegitimate ang bata, if the father consents to use his name, legitimate pa rin yun. E, si James, he was the one who signed the birth certificate of their son.” Kapunan also clarified that James never asked for any amount or property of Kris even if he has the right under the community property law since they have no pre-nuptial agreement. “Puede nila paghatian lahat ng properties acquired during the time they were married,” she added.

Apparently, James is now determined to fight back. If “The Buzz” is the turf of Kris, “Showbiz Central” now champions James as he will be featured solo next Sunday in “The Story of Your Life” portion for viewers to know more about the real James Yap.

MOTHER LILY is very happy at the hit premiere night of “Mamarazzi” as the positive from viewers is generally positive. What holds the film together is Eugene Domingo’s highly energetic and exuberant performance in the title role. She manages to be funny even if she does the dumbest and silliest things. Mother Lily is the only producer who can combine Kapuso and Kapamilya stars in one film. The Kapuso stars in “Mamarazzi” are Eugene, Carla Abellana, John Lapus, JC Tiuseco, Lucho Ayala and Carl Guevarra. The Kapamilya stars are Diether Ocampo, Andi Eigenmann, AJ Perez, Xian Lim, and Arron Villaflor (who’s very convincing as John Lapus’ gay son but was absent at the grand presscon since he has dengue fever.) At the grand presscon, Kuya Germs showed film clips of past Regal promos in his “GMA Supershow” and the new stars were able to see the original Regal Babies like Maricel Soriano, Dina Bonnevie, Snooky Serna, Gabby Concepcion, William Martinez, Richard Gomez and others in their younger days. “Nakakatuwa to watch the stars noong 80s and 90s,” says Carl Guevarra who plays Andi Eigenmann’s boyfriend in “Mamarazzi”. “It gives me a great feeling that I’m able to do a movie with Regal now na siya pang 50th anniversary presentation ng kumpanya.”

Eugene as “Mamarazzi” is honored that Mother Lily has chosen her film as Regal’s special anniversary offering. “Utang ko sa Regal ang first movie ko, ‘Emma Salazar Case’, where I played the role of a housemaid,” she says. “Dito rin ako nakakuha ng first acting award ko, best supporting actress sa 2007 Metro filmfest for ‘Bahay Kubo’. After that, sumama ang loob ni Mother sa’kin due to a misunderstanding but she’s good enough to get me again at heto nga, may ‘Mamarazzi’. As a movie fan, namulat ako sa Pinoy movies dahil sa mga gawa ng Regal kaya’t ang feeling ko, may karapatan akong magmalaki ngayong pang-anibersaryong handog na ako ng Regal. I’m so excited pero sobrang nervous din kaya ipagdarasal ko talagang kumita ito for Mother Lily.”

How is it working with first timers Andi and Carla in “Mamarazzi”? “Masaya, kasi puro kami magaganda. Nakikita ko ang sarili ko sa kanila noong bata-bata pa ko five years ago. At naaaliw ako sa kanila kasi mga disiplinado sila sa trabaho. Nakakasabay sila sa pagko-comedy ko.”

CARLA ABELLANA was the featured star in “Showbiz Central’s” “Behind the Wall” portion. She wasn’t able to guess correctly that one of the secret informants is her own elder sister, Erica, who is as pretty as Carla and can also be in showbiz. Carla admits she feels said that she and Geoff Eigenmann will part ways after “Basahang Ginto”. “We’ve foreseen that naman kasi di naman puedeng we won’t grow at puro kaming dalawa na lang lagi,” she says. “Geoff is now doing ‘Grazilda’ with Glaiza de Castro and I’ll be paired naman with Dennis Trillo inmy next show kasi maganda yung nakitang chemistry sa’min when we became co-hosts in ‘Starstruck V’. So yung supporters ng tambalan namin ni Geoff, don’t miss us in ‘Basahang Ginto’ dahil it will take a long time bago kami magkasama uli sa isang show.”

Will she miss Geoff? “Oo naman. He’s my first leading man and he’s really supportive. Super busy siya ngayon kasi nagte-tape na sila ng ‘Grazilda’ and he also tapes for ‘Basahang Ginto’ kaya lagari siya.”

Are they now on? “No. He knows work ang priority ko. But he’s definitely boyfriend material. Mabait siya talaga. Kaya lang, I’m not ready yet lalo ngayong nagmu-movies na ako. After ‘Mamarazzi’, I’m doing ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll 12’ naman for Regal at ang kapareha ko is Geoff’s cousin, Sid Lucero. I enjoyed doing ‘Mamarazzi’ kasi puro drama ako sa TV and this one is a comedy at maganda ang role ko as Mimi, an aspiring actress.”

But some folks say Andi Eigenmann has a better role than her? “That’s true, kasi anak siya ni Eugene Domingo as Mamarazzi and she plays dual roles pa. But that’s just fine with me. Hindi ko gagawing issue yan.”

HOW WILL NANETTE Inventor differentiate Donya Buding who she popularized in the 80s, to Lola Barbie, the kind grandma she now plays in GMA-7’s new daily telesitcom-reality show, “Yaman ni Lola”, shown after “Eat Bulaga”? “They’re poles apart,” she says. “Buding is a rich matron na matapobre, mapanlait. Lola Barbie is kind and willing to share her wealth with the needy kasi she used to be a kasambahay herself. I think mas ako yung si Lola Barbie kaysa Donya Buding kaya thankful ako sa GMA for giving me this role na mas endearing naman sa tao. Kasi ang goal talaga ng show is public service. Mahirap ang buhay ngayon at makakatulong ito sa mga kababayan nating walang trabaho while teaching good values about determination to succeed and devotion to one’s work. Like this week, the contest is between kasambahays at talagang natulungan namin sila rito.”
